Security

All HP devices come with best-in-class security software as standard; including HP SureStart which validates the integrity of the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) code, Whitelisting which validates the integrity of the firmware code and Run-time Intrusion Detection which detects changes to the system memory.

Sustainability

All HP devices are Energy Star Qualified. Wastage has been reduced by approximately 15%. There was also a 31% reduction in energy used with the upgraded devices and 25% less packaging and waste with the new Extra High Yield laser toners and page wide supplies.

Savings

Less intervention and time required to change supplies due to new Extra High Yield Managed Supplies. The installation of additional output accessories on the main “Invoicing” MFP Device means that printing customer invoices takes a lot less time and is far less labour intensive

Devices and Software

16 HP Laser and Page Wide Managed Devices; from the E8, P7, P5, Z8 Series’, a mix of A3 & A4 colour MFP’s in freestanding and desktop Formats. PaperCut is a simple, low-cost software application that gives you full control and visibility of your printer fleet. It is suitable for sites of any size with a cross platform and vendor neutral approach to technology and devices. It includes embedded software that runs on the device to enable tracking, control, and secure print release directly from the device’s panel.

Pages Printed

Stacked currently supports the printing of 400,000 pages per annum for Thorntons Recycling.

Efficiencies

The Objective

The main objectives upon renewal were to see if improvements or additional features could be offered on the current MPS Solution and to identify any further potential for reductions in cost. They were interested in examining the features and benefits of a Pull Print Solution and how it could complement their new suite of devices.

The Solution

Stacked upgraded all 16 existing HP devices and installed a PaperCut Pull Print Solution on all of the new MFPs. Document release and control was implemented via Employee Security Swipe Cards and Card Readers. A mix of four different HP models were selected for their suitability for the different business areas.

The Reasoning

The implementation of a PaperCut Pull Print Solution would allow Thornton’s to reduce costs through unnecessary wastage. It also offers greater security and enhanced GDPR compliance. Installing the Card Reader functionality as an additional layered solution means that there are now less touch points on the shared devices, which is good news from a hygiene perspective. Adding additional output accessories for Credit Control means that time spent on labour intensive jobs could be significantly reduced.

The Result

Thorntons were very pleased to see that all of their original objectives had been met and even surpassed, with reduced print volumes, reduced waste, improved efficiencies and enhanced security and compliance all resulting in additional cost reductions. In relation to Covid-19, they were also reassured by the fact that the new Pull Print and Card Reader Solution reduced the number of touchpoints on the shared devices.
